Context

JW3 represents the largest capital project for London’s Jewish community in a generation, establishing a dedicated cultural and community centre designed to be a vibrant hub for Jewish life in the capital. This ambitious initiative aimed to create a new “postcode for cultural and communal life” that would serve as a gathering place for both Jewish and wider communities, requiring substantial capital investment and strong public engagement from its inception.

The Challenge

As a major new institution without established recognition or footfall, JW3 faced the dual challenges of raising significant capital funds (over £50 million) while simultaneously building awareness and excitement to ensure strong attendance upon opening. The project needed to appeal to diverse audiences within and beyond the Jewish community, requiring a distinctive brand that would resonate across generations and denominations while expressing cultural richness and contemporary relevance.

Our solution

We developed a comprehensive marketing strategy supporting both fundraising and public engagement objectives. Our approach included:

  1. Creating a distinctive marketing style and brand platform that expressed JW3’s unique positioning at the intersection of tradition and innovation
  2. Developing compelling fundraising materials that helped secure over £50 million in capital funding, enabling the project to move from concept to reality
  3. Implementing an effective launch campaign that dramatically exceeded expectations, with initial attendance reaching three times the projected footfall

This successful integration of strategic fundraising support and creative brand development ensured that JW3 not only secured the necessary investment but also established immediate momentum as a vibrant community destination from day one.

ZEST

ZEST is the restaurant, café and bar at JW3. Hope’s challenge was to create an identity that reflected a strong Tel Aviv culinary tradition, full of sunlight, warmth, life and zest. The highly colourful crockery was the starting point for the colours and tones. From there we developed a logotype that reflected the Hebrew vowels. We wanted the menu design to stand out and intrigue the diner, so we printed the menu on old Israeli newspapers, and added some pearls of wisdom hidden in the text!
